This release starts the series: the basket starts at 1,234.77 BRL. Prices were checked on June 26 for everyday retail goods; so the cost of living in Brazil is tracked over time, not by anecdotal impressions.

Key Points in This Release

This is the first release of RULATAM Brazil 50. Rio de Janeiro is the starting measurement: a large recognizable city with a strong retail and practical relevance for foreigners. One city price survey does not describe the whole of Brazil, but gives a comparable point of reference to other RULATAM Price countries.

Methodology

Prices were collected and checked in Rio de Janeiro supermarkets between 22 and 25 June 2026, and were collected and checked in Zona Sul, Carrefour, Mercado Carrefour and Irmãos Silva by the editorial staff of the RULATAM Prices project.

All prices are checked by RULATAM volunteers; the index excludes rent, utility bills, medicine, schools, taxes and flights; it is an applied monitoring of the cost of living, not official statistics.
