Banco Galicia closes accounts of Russian-speaking clients in Argentina

Hundreds of Russian-speaking residents of Argentina say Banco Galicia has closed their accounts. Other clients report restrictions on transactions through their US dollar accounts. Complaints began to surface on 28–29 October 2026, according to RuArgentina.News.

One document shared by clients is a bank letter saying a savings account will be closed on 14 December. It cites the bank’s general terms but gives no specific reason for the decision. Other clients say their accounts have already been closed. They say bank staff either offered no explanation or referred to commercial reasons.

Those reporting closures and restrictions include people from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Some have become Argentine citizens; others hold temporary or permanent residency. A screenshot of the bank’s online system shows a transaction declined with the code RUBLOCGA. Clients suspect discrimination based on their origin. They say the bank has not explained the code to them.

Nearly 500 people have joined a group collecting accounts of the bank’s actions. Members are asking how the bank decides which accounts to close and are preparing a joint lawsuit.
